Many skin conditions have consequences on the structure of the skin.
Keratoseborrhoeic states are disorders of the skin that result in the presence of oily skin and/or dandruff in dogs. These disorders involve abnormalities in the surface lipid film, which can become excessive, and also an alteration in desquamation (the normal process of epidermal renewal) related to abnormalities in the division and maturation of skin cells.
This can lead to a thickening of the skin and the development of dander (dandruff).
The skin is then colonized by a large number of bacteria and yeasts, which can cause itching and frequently an unpleasant odor. Keratoseborrhoeic states are usually secondary to endocrine disorders.
Addressing oily skin and dandruff in your dog requires a comprehensive approach. By working with your vet and following a proper care routine, you can help improve your dog’s skin health and comfort.
